Strengthening Families Resources
Butte 2-1-1 is a community partner in the Strengthening Families network, a local coalition of service providers established by the First 5 Butte County Children and Families Commission to assist and support parents and children. Strengthening Families is built upon two key beliefs: all families have strengths, and all families need support.

Mothers Well is a program of Northern Valley Catholic Social Service which offers counseling services to women suffering from perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Services are offered to women with Medi-Cal or those who are uninsured or under-insured. Women can be referred by social service agencies, friends, family, or by self-referral.

Women under the age of 29 who are pregnant or have just given birth, are screened for risk factors. If deemed high risk, they are invited into the program which provides regular home visits, the frequency of which are based on levels of stress in the household. The objective is to reinforce mother-child bonding and positive parenting skills, thereby preventing child abuse and neglect. Depending on the family’s needs, they may also be linked to additional services such as financial, food, and housing assistance programs, school readiness programs, child care, job training programs, family support centers, substance abuse treatment programs, and domestic violence shelters. The program serves Paradise, Magalia, Oroville and South Butte County families. - Teens As Parents Program (TAPP)

The TAPP program provides case management services, information, and advocacy to pregnant and parenting women and men age 19 and younger. The program ensures health and well being of teen parents and their children. - Tu Tus Menyuam – Raising the Child

Raising the Child offers support for Hmong families with children 0-5, helping prepare young children and families for school. They host monthly family-fun events for the families. The purpose this program is to empower parents with the skills to advocate for their children in the school system. - Ridge Strengthening Families Network

The Parent Café is a monthly family socialization event in Chico, Oroville and Gridley. The Parent Café model involves having small groups with facilitators meet at tables to discuss topics related to parenting. First, a communal dinner takes place which families share. Then the parents participate in the Café while children are engaged by child-care providers in a craft activity or games.
