What is Covered California?

Covered California is California’s health insurance marketplace where Californians can compare quality health insurance plans and choose the right one for their health needs and budget. Covered California will also determine if applicants qualify to receive financial help in the form of premium assistance or cost-sharing reductions that will help lower the cost of health insurance and make healthcare more affordable.

When can you enroll?

Open Enrollment

Open enrollment for 2017 coverage begins November 1, 2016 and ends on January 31, 2017. enroll by December 15, 2016 to make sure your coverage begins on January 1, 2017

Special Enrollment

Getting covered outside of the open-enrollment period: Once open enrollment has ended, consumers can enroll in a Covered California health insurance plan only if they have experienced a qualifying life event.Learn more about qualifying life events from the Covered California website. 

Consumers who are eligible for Medi-Cal can enroll in Medi-Cal at any time.

Who can and can’t apply for Covered California?

Can:

  • All U.S. citizens residing in California
  • U.S. nationals residing in California
  • Non-citizens lawfully present in California

Can’t :

  • If you are not lawfully present in California
  • If you are incarcerated
