THREE WAYS TO SEARCH FOR INFORMATION AT
WWW.HELPCENTRAL.ORG!
1.Search by Keyword 2.Search by Agency or Program Name
3.Search by Category
KEYWORD SEARCH TIPS
On HelpCentral.org you can achieve search results that are
narrowly or broadly defined. Using the
keyword searching tools combined with the keyword search options, you can
customize your search. Note that search options include Any Word, Partial
Word, All Words, Exact Phrase. (The
current default is set to All Words. Selecting these buttons will change the matchlist of services
and agencies you find when searching by keyword. Play around with these options and you will quickly see how
resources are listed differently.
For Single Word Searches:
- To narrowly define your keyword search, use the exact word or phrase
you are seeking, i.e. parenting and select All Words
button. This returns all services containing the word parenting.
- To return a larger matchlist of options, type parent and
select Partial Word. This returns all services with the words
parent, parents, parenting, parental, grandparents, (i.e. any
word with parent as the root).
For Phrase Searches:
- Type child care and
select Exact Phrase. This returns any service that includes the
exact phrase child care.
- Unless you want really
long lists of services, do not type child care and select Any
Word. This returns the
NIGHTMARE MATCHLIST with any service that includes the word child OR
the word care.
AGENCY/PROGRAM NAME SEARCH TIPS
If you know the name of an agency or
program that you are looking for, you can type all or part of its name in the
search box. Leave out any
punctuation. Again, use the search
options at the bottom to define your search.
- The best way to locate a single agency or program is to type in as
much of its name as you know and choose the All Words OR Exact
Phrase option. (For Butte County
agencies, be sure to include the word that follows Butte County in the
agency name or you will have to sift through all of the Butte
County agencies.)
- Note: The Agency/Program
Name search box also searches the site names of agencies or
programs. For example, if you type in Oroville
Family Resource, you will get a matchlist that has the Oroville Family
Resource Center and its programs but also a listing for the Parent Education
Network that operates some of its programs at the Oroville Family
Resource Center.
CATEGORY SEARCH TIPS
The category search will
give you a broad sense of the services available to view. Searching by category may require more
scrolling to zero in on the specific services you are seeking but it also shows
more options of services listed.
-
Select a category. The next page lists subcategories--choose one.
The next page lists all of the
services linked to that subcategory--choose one. A list of the agencies and programs providing that service will
be listed next. Select a program and
view the detail.
-
Use the Back button to
return to the services page, or the subcategory page. Use the New Search button to return to the home search
page.
